A Funny Thing Happened in my Reiki workshop…

A recent Reiki client, Sheryl, reminded me of a humorous incident that occurred at her workshop several years ago.
If you’ve been receiving my emails for a while, you’ve likely heard me share stories about signs and synchronicities — those magical moments that make us feel so alive. And you know how much I love music.
At my Reiki workshops, I guide students in meditation just before giving them their Attunements.
In Sheryl’s class, right after I finished the Reiki Attunements, the next thing I knew, these song lyrics drifted into my mind, clear as day…
“Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today to get through this thing called life
Electric word, life
It means forever, and that’s a mighty long time
But I’m here to tell you,
there’s something else…”
This made me pause and think about Earth School and how we are all here “to get through this thing called life” and awaken to who we truly are.
And how practices like Reiki and meditation provide such crucial support on this journey—they help us navigate life’s challenges with greater ease, while awakening us to a deeper dimension.
Since I took this as a Divine download, I was compelled to share it with the class.
That’s when Sheryl excitedly remarked, “I’m a huge fan of Prince. I saw him in 1984 during his Purple Rain tour in Chicago.”
I thought to myself, this download was for her…
But, just then, another woman in the class said, “I was at that same concert in 1984!”
How crazy is that!?
…36 years earlier, two teenage girls had attended the very same concert in Chicago, and now here they were connecting in my Reiki class.
But that was not all…
Every so often, encounters leave such a deep impression that someone’s words stay with us for years. That’s exactly what happened to Sheryl after meeting another student that weekend.
What began as a divine download of song lyrics sparked a connection about a concert, which led to the entire class experiencing a wave of aliveness and a deep sense of interconnectedness, regardless of being Prince fans or not.
When we gather in sacred space for Reiki and meditation, a synergy happens.
I truly believe that Reiki and meditation aren’t just tools for relaxation—they’re invitations to remember who we truly are: spiritual beings having a human experience (sometimes challenging, other times uplifting—always uniquely our own).
It’s about awakening to our wholeness. When we tune into that deeper sense of self, even the tough days can feel lighter, and the inspired days a little brighter.
We start to shine more, and the journey feels so much richer.
