Try on Something New – Step into the Unknown

It’s almost Halloween — a time when we enjoy explicit permisison to take on a different identity, to make believe, and yes to even play!”

In our daily lives how often do we play? How often do we step outside of our set persona, roles, beliefs, and routines? For most people it’s not often and this can lead to a sense of stagnation.

The good news is that we can step out of our routine way of living and being. We can open our lives up, invite new experiences, step out of our comfort zones, and live life more fully.

This might mean taking on a new persona by taking a new class, doing a new activity, expanding social connections, or dusting off a dream (a book we want to write or a cause we are passionate about). By stepping into the unknown we invite in the experience of adventure and possibility.

Would a scavenger hunt be any fun if we knew where we were going every step of the way? Or is it the inherent mystery that makes it engaging? To live life fully requires that we occassionally step into unchartered territory and be willing to challenge ourselves.

Recently I signed up for improvisation classes. This is completely out of my comfort zone and it’s scary and exciting at the same time. It’s an opportunity to challenge myself and bring out my playful side. A friend of mine recently committed to writing her first book – a thrilling leap for her. Another friend enrolled in yoga teacher training to stretch herself and open up new possibilities.

Is there something you have contemplated, something that both scares and excites you? Perhaps, it’s time to take a leap and try on something new.

Have fun and surprise yourself.

Happy Halloween.

Lisa
